Understanding the Bible introduces learners to the Bible as a collection of diverse writings that together communicate a unified story of God, creation, humanity, redemption and hope. The course is designed for Christians, new believers, church members, ministry workers and anyone seeking a clearer foundation for reading Scripture.
Learners will explore the Old and New Testaments, the major biblical divisions, the historical world behind the text, the relationships among biblical books and the central themes that run across the canon. The course also develops practical reading skills, including observing a passage carefully, identifying literary genre, considering historical and cultural context, comparing related passages and distinguishing sound interpretation from personal assumption.
