About this course
Proverbs and Their Meanings Course explores how proverbs communicate wisdom, values and experience through concise and often figurative language. Learners begin by examining what proverbs are, how literal and figurative meanings differ, and how culture and oral tradition shape proverbial expression.
The course explores proverbs about character, relationships, community, work, learning and leadership before developing deeper interpretation skills. Learners consider context, speaker intention, cultural differences, translation challenges and proverbs that may appear similar, contradictory or ambiguous.
Learners also practise choosing and using appropriate proverbs in speech, teaching, presentations, writing and creative expression. The course concludes by examining responsible use, including bias, ethical considerations and ways traditional proverbs can remain meaningful in modern communication.
