About this course

Contract Law Fundamentals provides a practical introduction to the principles that determine how contracts are created, interpreted, performed and enforced. It is designed for entrepreneurs, business owners, managers, employees, freelancers, procurement professionals, administrators, students and anyone who needs to understand agreements and the responsibilities they create.

The course explores the essential elements of a valid contract, including offer and acceptance, consideration, intention to create legal relations, contractual capacity, consent and legality. Learners examine how contractual terms operate, including express and implied terms, conditions and warranties, representations, exclusion clauses and provisions that may create legal or commercial risk.

The course also addresses situations that can affect the validity or enforceability of an agreement, including mistake, misrepresentation, duress and undue influence. Learners then explore breach of contract, termination and the remedies that may be available when contractual obligations are not fulfilled.

Throughout the course, practical examples drawn from business, employment, purchasing, service arrangements and everyday transactions help learners connect legal principles with real situations. Learners also develop practical contract-reading skills for identifying obligations, deadlines, liabilities, termination provisions, dispute mechanisms and other important terms before entering into an agreement.

By the end of the course, learners should be better equipped to understand contractual rights and responsibilities, recognise potential risks, ask appropriate questions and make informed decisions when entering into or managing agreements. Because contract law varies between jurisdictions, the course focuses on broadly applicable principles while identifying areas where local legislation, court decisions or professional legal advice may affect the outcome.

This course is provided for educational purposes and does not constitute legal advice.
